Trouble Waking for Fajr, suggestions?
Assalamu alaikoum. i hope you’re doing fine in sha Allah. i just wanted to know if you could give some “advice” to young people who struggle waking up for Fajr. i have to admit that, as a college student, i find it difficult even if i know the benefits of it. i don’t know if you’ve aswered this question before .. thank you in advance 🙂
Wa alykum as-salaam,
Alhamdulilah, I am doing well, thank you so much for your well-wishes. Rabina yu’barik feek[i], insha Allah. I hope you and your family are doing well, insha Allah.
My favorite strategy, used by Egyptians during summer-time (especially), is to stay up until Fajr, pray, and sleep until right before Asr, so you can pray Duhr in time.
This is a terrible idea.
I’m not sure what advice I can give you, because it really depends on how you function. That being said, there are various strategies out there, and I think there is a common thread to them all: have something else to do.
My mother, for instance, (so sorry for calling you out mom) but she watches an episode of her favorite Turkish soap-opera before praying. I’m not talking Arabic-dubbed, but, a straight-up, Turkish soap-opera. Oh, she doesn’t speak Turkish, in case you were wondering.
Other strategies incorporate other things, like promising yourself a good breakfast. Other people shift their day around so they start their day at Fajr-time. Super star athletes go for a run right after.
I think having something else to do, besides praying, can help in you waking up.
If that doesn’t work for you, then, I think having multiple alarms, would be best. Use an old cell-phone, or multiple old cell-phones, and space them out so that you actually wake up. Putting the alarm on the other side of the room, so you have to actually get up to turn it off, is also an option. If you can make the Athan your alarm, that might work as well.
There is no doubt that it is difficult, but be easy on yourself, because there’s no use beating yourself up about anything, because people will do that to you for free. I think if you sleep with the intention of getting up, that is what is most important, and God knows what you are trying to do, and that’s all you need to worry about.
Insha Allah, I hope that answers your question, but if you, or anyone else, has a question on this, or any other topic, please do not hesitate to ask me.
