If there is an “except,” then you have to realize that you cannot apply a ruling or a view to every situation, and to do so, is to misunderstand or even worse, to mishandle Islamic methodological thought.

It is broad and pragmatic ideational structures that have ensured that Islam continues to be relevant to Muslims’ everyday lives today. If you refuse to acknowledge that exceptions exist, you have failed to grasp the totality of Islamic thinking.
